Olympic Day!

Wednesday was a busy day for our school it was Olympic day, Olympic day is when we do heaps of fun sporty games and carry around flags representing our assigned countries. My country was China and we had two team leaders called Jules and Aby, along with a teacher to keep us on track called Miss White and Miss Bryce.

The first activity was dodgeball, we were sorted into two sides. Then we picked a type of gamemode we played elimination which means someone can only get in if someone from their team catches the ball. Unfortunately my team lost.

Secondly was pickleball and spike ball, we rotated around both sports so everyone got an even turn. Thirdly we played volleyball, normally I love volleyball but it was very crowded and people kept going in front of me.

After lunch we played Kī-o-rahi we took turns being the defending team and attacking team. When we were the defending team Claire, Ruby and I defended the center barrel.

Lastly we played ping pong, ping pong was surprisingly hard, you had to hit the ball not too hard but not too soft. Ping pong was not one of my favorites but i’m sure others liked it.

RE Sacraments!

A couple weeks ago we took a test to see how much we knew about the Sacraments, although we had learnt about them many times before I had forgotten what they were, I may have gotten one or 2 right but I needed a quick recap. Father Zioni came in to talk to us what the Sacraments were and which symbol belongs to them. Once we had recapped on what they were we answered these questions on the slide, we needed to do some research but overall I think I did pretty well.

Here is my DLO

Do you know what a Sacrament is?

Reading and Writing

This week we’ve been focusing on the Olympics and the history behind it, We had to say our own intake on what we think the original Olympics was like.

For writing we had to make some questions to ask a mystery Olympian, I was very proud when the teachers complimented my questions, after that we picked out a couple articles to answer some other questions here is my DLO.

What do you know about the history of the Olympics?

Truly Travis Wetlands Experience

Monday 17th June was when a couple of my friends and I went on our trip. Beforehand we had taken a survey to see which habitat we wanted to explore, my first option was Sumner Beach, following with Travis Wetlands, and lastly the Groynes dog park. Although I didn’t get my ideal pick I didn’t mind at all as long as I was with some friends I was happy.

Monday Morning- We boarded the bus with a smile on our faces I sat beside Shakarna and we happily chatted about what we thought we’d be doing. On arrival we had a short walk to a clearing where a kind faced lady was waiting for us. It turns out the lady we had seen was called Tracy and she was a City Councillor. After going over the safety rules {Don’t Touch or feed the Pukekos, Ask a parent before going toilet, and always stick together} we walked around a rustic water tap down a short path and across a little wooden bridge. We ended up in this pretty triangle hut where Tracy laid out two big tarps she taught us about the history of the Wetlands and about how different it was 200 yrs ago.

After a bit of learning Tracy pulled out a flax bag she told us there were 6 items inside and they all had a special meaning. First we pulled out a nest that resembled a nursery for birds, then we pulled out a sift it showed that Travis Wetlands is like a filter, a sink representing a carbon sink, a bed in breakfast showing that the birds can find a lot of food around the habitat, an areoplane showing that birds fly in for different seasons, and a sponge that resembles the Wetlands soaking up the sedimentation.

First Activity

We were introduced to a new person for this activity named Chris, he instructed that we grabbed a pair of binoculars and follow him out the hut and along a gravel lined pathway. We approached a lake with a large mass of bird life surrounding the edges of the water. Chris wanted us to find out what color eyes the little black ducks had, even with the binoculars we all struggled to see what color they were. So Chris took us to a platform it was much easier to see with this view! Me and Emily were the first people to find the answer which is Orange-Yellow. Their eyes were stunning! Moving on we continued down the path to a big gate Chris pushed it opened surprisingly easily. He told us to study the black and white ducks then he showed us two pictures of different breed ducks he got us to guess which ones the black and white ducks we’d seen were. But it was a trick question they were both!

In between both activities we stopped for lunch right outside the toilets and embarked on some Delicious treats, I envied Shakarna’s scroll it, and thought Miriam’s gummy’s looked scrumptious. We all started at the Pukekos who had come over looking for snacks when one came right up and pooped on our tarp YUCK!

Second Activity

The final Activity seemed to come quick, we brunched of to a smaller river where Tracy showed us how to catch small bugs. Here’s what we had to do- Step 1: Grab a net and dip it under some vegetation moving it side to side gently Step 2: Dip the net in a tray of water Step 3: search for moving creatures in the tray Step 4: Once you find one put it in the separated containers and identify what species they were. Me and Shakarna found millions of black tiny sea snails, as well as an insect called a back swimmer and some more. This was my favorite activity because it meant we could work together and discover new insects. I thought it was really cool that a kid caught a baby eel it was so slimy and cute.

On the bus ride back we were exhausted, since there weren’t many people on the bus we decided to sit on nearby seats but not together. We talked about how much we had enjoyed the trip and what our favorite things were, mine was activity 2 and Shakarna’s was lunch. We had so much fun on this trip and it was not at all what we had expected.

Would you like to go to Travis Wetlands?

Rad Report!

Early this week my writing class started learning about how to make a perfect information report. Because we had just started my Lovely teacher Miss Shepard asked us to write a short information report in 10 minutes going over brief facts such as what our creature eats. What are you doing about it? You might ask, well we are focusing on an animal of our choice that we know a lot about because we are not allowed to do any research.

We did this because our teachers wanted to see how much we knew and understood about an animal of choice, I think I made a good representation because I shared a lot of facts about dogs.

Personally I did mine about Dogs here is my Practice Information report. Here is a link to get Closer!

What do you know about Dogs?

Glamorous Gospel🪻

Every Monday we learn a new Gospel teaching, we learn about what it means and why Jesus taught it. We also answer some questions to show our understanding and that we were paying attention.

Here is my questions for this week

What would you put for these questions?

Thanks for reading!

Hopeful Habitats

This week in literacy we focused on habitats across the world. We started learning about the ocean in particular since it has a big impact on everything else we broadened out and learnt about a wider variety of all the ocean habitats. We mainly focused on threats habitats are facing, such as Global Warming, and Pollution.

Here is a slide I filled out with the main ideas and new vocab I learnt on each slide.

Do you think it’s important to learn about habitats?

Thanks for reading!

Elon Musk-Reading

This week we learnt about Elon Musk and how he rose up into the world of business, In our workshop we read two different texts we learnt about his family life and why he started to like tech/cars. I made a video show casing a summary of his life, an important moment, and a timeline.

Do you know who Elon Musk is? Thank you Bye!!

Where’s Ava? (SLJ)

Hello everybody, this morning my friend Claire called me and asked if I wanted to do a SLJ task.  This came as a real shock because i’d completely forgotten about it! So we quickly hopped on our Chromebooks and looked around the site for today’s task.  I grew up reading ‘Wheres Wally?’ With my gran and close family I feel like it’s an important factor of my childhood because I remember these memories so well. I enjoyed watching the instruction video today because it gave me a good understanding of what we were about to do.

Here’s my Wheres Wally! Can you find me?

My work is on slide: 4, I think I could’ve done better but overall i’m still proud of the work I’ve accomplished. My favorite slide is the last one where I included the image showing people on the pier. I tried to make it kind of realistic by making a person protest in the bottom right corner. What do you think I could’ve done to improve? Whats your favorite slide?

Hopefully you enjoyed!

New Task?

This week and last week the teachers included a new rule. As you know every week we have to pick a new task of the task bored. But some people have been doing 5 second tasks that aren’t made properly. When you make something about or including the Gospel or God you need to take your time and make it with love. So teachers encouraged us to do role plays and news reports since these tasks need a lot of time to complete. This week I did a drawing I tried to incorporate lots of the main things i’d learnt. I had to Include-

1} The Gospel Reference

2} Images that tell the gospel in a way.

With the tasks in mind I used these Images as inspiration.

What did you do this week for gospel?
